Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in Istanbul recorded the highest daily passenger traffic in its history. On 9 August 2026, the airport served 179,789 passengers and handled 935 flights.
International routes accounted for the largest share of operations. International flights represented 56.5% of the total, while domestic flights accounted for 43.5%. In terms of passenger traffic, 56% of travellers used international services and 44% travelled on domestic routes.
Arriving and departing passenger flows were almost evenly distributed. Arriving passengers represented 50.4% of the total, while departing passengers accounted for 49.6%.
The previous record had been set just one week earlier. On 2 August, the airport served 174,325 passengers and handled 919 flights. The new result exceeded the previous record by 5,464 passengers and 16 flights.
The increase in passenger traffic strengthens Sabiha Gökçen Airport’s position as one of Istanbul’s key aviation hubs. The high share of international services also reflects growing tourism demand and the continued development of Türkiye’s transport infrastructure.
