The United Arab Emirates has ranked fourth in the Expat Insider 2026 survey of the best countries for expats to live and work. Only Panama, Mexico, and Thailand placed higher.
The study was conducted by the international expat community InterNations. Nearly 8,000 expats representing 162 nationalities shared their views on living abroad, career prospects, safety, healthcare, personal finances, and the ease of handling everyday matters.
UAE Leads in Expat Essentials
The UAE ranked first in the Expat Essentials Index, which evaluates the basic conditions that make life abroad easier. The assessment covers visa procedures, digital government services, housing, and the ability to manage daily life without speaking the local language.
The country’s strong result reflects its advanced digital infrastructure, accessible administrative services, and the widespread use of English in business and everyday communication.
Strong Career Prospects
The UAE also ranked first worldwide for career prospects. Around 80% of respondents said that moving to the Emirates had improved their professional opportunities.
Expats positively assessed the local economy, international job market, and potential for career growth. More than half of the respondents living in the UAE moved to the country for employment-related reasons.
The Emirates ranked third in the overall Working Abroad Index.
Safety and Quality of Life
The UAE took third place in the Quality of Life Index. Personal safety received positive ratings from 94% of respondents, while 89% praised the country’s political stability.
Healthcare availability and quality, transport infrastructure, dining, entertainment, and leisure opportunities also received high scores. These advantages continue to attract international professionals, entrepreneurs, investors, and families.
The cost of living remains one of the country’s weaker areas, with the UAE ranking 18th in the Personal Finance Index. Nevertheless, its infrastructure, safety, career opportunities, and international environment secured its place among the world’s most attractive destinations for expats in 2026.
The results reinforce the UAE’s position as a leading global hub for employment, business, investment, and long-term international living.
