Dubai is considering a new Airport Express metro line that could provide a direct connection between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC).
The proposed route would be approximately 55 kilometres long. According to the preliminary concept, the line could include five stations and provide a convenient transport connection between the emirate’s two main aviation hubs.
The route is expected to begin at Dubai International Airport and run parallel to the Red Line before continuing along Al Khail Road towards Al Maktoum International Airport. One of the intermediate stations could be located in Jumeirah Village Circle. Additional branches towards central areas of Dubai are also under consideration.
The new stations may offer flight check-in, baggage drop-off, and selected pre-flight services. This would allow passengers to complete some travel formalities before arriving at the airport.
The project is currently at a preliminary stage. Several companies have already submitted proposals to conduct feasibility studies and develop the line’s design. Its technical specifications, estimated cost, and potential implementation timeline will be determined after this stage. No official decision to begin construction has yet been announced.
The Airport Express project is connected to the large-scale expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai South. Once all development phases are completed, the airport is expected to handle up to 260 million passengers annually. The master plan includes five parallel runways and more than 400 aircraft gates.
The new metro line could reduce travel time between the two airports, simplify transfers, and improve access to Dubai South and Jumeirah Village Circle. The development of transport infrastructure may also increase the investment appeal of properties located near the proposed route.
